Fall trends and falling prices at Kohl's!!

Hello Angels,

In a never ending effort to bring you all the latest and greatest of fashion and makeup (and leave some money in your pockets for things like food and shelter!) we present to you...  Fall faves at falling prices at a Kohl's near you!

I had the  chance to hit up my local Kohl's here in Augusta, GA and spent some time scouting out the gems in this store (almost all at 20-30% off) that I feel represent the "must have" trends for fall fashion.   

First up we have:

Military inspired utility jackets.  Now I know a lot of brands are putting out their own versions of these at varying price points but I thought this one was neat because of the lace detail on the shoulders and the rockin price of $33.99, which is 40% off regular.

Cute right?  I just love when details "girlify" something as unfeminine as a utility jacket in drab olive.

Next up... Embellished errrrythang!  

You may have noticed that embellished sweaters shirts, tees and tanks are all over the place.  Kohl's had these Elle shirts (a nod to the much much more expensive version sold by J. Crew) on sale for  50% off at $24.99.  My head is just spinning thinking of the million and one ways I can rock these shirts from casual with skinny jeans to the office with a pencil skirt.  Yep, a must.  

Another adorable top by Jennifer Lopez, but this one isn't on sale (yet lol) and rings in at $50.  But the quality is quite good with sewn on embellishments of decent weight and beautiful sparkle so even at full price it's a "do", and still runs less expensive than many other versions I've seen.  I love that the bottom isn't clingy like so many sweatshirts, and it's a little on the longer side so this is going to be a curve-flattering piece for sure, dressed up or down!

Next stop, Cobalt blue!!  I'm not personally a big color blocker but when I do, cobalt is one of my go-to's.  Such a rich and vibrant hue that wears so nicely in the cold weather.  Apt 9 has several pieces in this hue that are on point.

Next up is the leopard trend.  This fall I'm loving all things in leopard print. Shoes, bags, scarves, anything, you name it if you make it in leopard print this fall I'm interested!  I saw this adorable infinity scarf, also Apt 9, in a nice lightweight but not cheap fabric for only $15.99.

Next stop on the fall trends train is: black and white.  I'm enjoying this particularly classic color combination with a lot of different colored accents to bring a pop of fun to my outfits.  I also love that you can combine black-and-white together in   pretty much any pattern and it makes for an eye-catching yet classic piece, and is almost always appropriate for the workplace.  Here were my top picks of this trend at Kohl's:

Ok next trend spotted was leather trim.  I'm interested in adding leather in lots of new ways to my fall wardrobe:  shorts, skirts, pants and shirts.  Looks like designers agree and I'm noticing leather trim showing up in unexpected and cool places, like on that peplum cobalt top you just saw and these other pieces:

What's great is that for all you animal lovers out there, most of these pieces appearing this fall are faux, so you can enjoy guilt-free!

Speaking of faux, another piece I wanted to share with you was a Jennifer Lopez black and white fur vest.  This piece is just fabulous.  Pictures don't quite do it justice.  Although it is faux the feel of this vest is quite luxurious, not scratchy and cheap like a lot of faux pieces out there.  Regular price is a hefty $175.00 but... This little number is on sale for $122.50.  

So here we are at the last fall fave trend I found at Kohl's...  Printed denim.  This trend hails back to the '80s for me (I'm dating myself!), when acid wash and flower print jeans ran rampant.  This newer version of the trend is different.  More understated, faded prints and smaller patterns are the norm here.  Which makes it very easy to mix patterns and have fun with color.  I saw these two pieces from the Lauren Conrad collection:

Well that wraps up my little trip to Kohls. And I left with my wallet a little bit lighter than it was when I walked in.

Naked Palette 2 Eyeshadow look and UD Revolution F-Bomb Lipstick

And I'm back Angels!

This time gabbin' about a fan favorite, yes yours and mine, Urban Decay's Naked Palette 2.

Just taking a moment to share a look I created the other day and paired with none other than Urban Decay lipstick (more later).  If you're not familiar with this palette here it is...  A gorgeous array of neutral colors.  Some with shimmer, some without and a nice true black all the way to the right to boot.  This is one of my favorite palettes and also something I love to use for travel.  Anyways enough about that-- Here's the look:

To achieve this look I used Bootycall on the inner corner and inner lid, Chopper across the mid lid, Busted to create a soft cut crease and I blended this toward the brow bone with Snakebite.  Finally I used Foxy on the brow bone/highlight area.  NYX liquid eyeliner was used on the top lid to create the wing and Chopper (with a wet smudger brush) was applied to the inner lower corner, followed by Urban Decay Perversion smudged into the lower lash line and applied to the waterline.  I finished the look off with Benefit mascara They're Real.  Eyebrows filled in with a combo of MAC spiked eyebrow pencil and Anastasia Beverly Hills powder. 

For the lips, since the eyes were very tame color wise I thought I'd punch it up with some red-- F-bomb from the Urban Decay Revolution lipstick line (lined with MAC Vino pencil) and here it is:

A word about this lipstick:  It's the "F-bomb".  In this color it went on smoothly, wore like a dream and lasted hours.  I love it and will be wearing it a lot this fall.  If you're considering purchasing, stop considering and get to buying.  Nuf said lol.  

This eyeshadow look would pair well with my other faves from the UD Revolution lipsticks collection:  Venom, Shame and Anarchy.  What's awesome about these besides their color and wear is that there is a matching 24/7 glide on pencil that bears the same name for each lipstick.  Maybe I'll do a separate post on those soon haha!

Clinique Chubby Sticks Review and Swatches

Hello Angels,

Well as always we try to keep you informed on all that's buzzing in beauty and fashion.  Whilst at the nail salon the other day thumbing through a gossip rag (sorry, not sorry) I saw an ad for the amazing moisturizing power and potent color of the Clinique Intense chubby sticks.  Normally, I'm not into sheer lip color because for my money I want color payoffffff honey.  But because these claimed to be "intense" I thought I'd scoot over to my local Sephora and check it out for myself.

As you can see, I was able to find every color of the collection except "Heftiest Hibiscus" because it was totally sold out.  Perhaps this is telling of how great the color is.  I have pretty positive remarks for the rest of the colors, and here are my swatches (and please pardon the ashiness of my hands-- I only got a pedicure lol):

So what did I get, you ask???

Since I only swatched and didn't wear yet, I limited myself to one...  Plushiest Punch.  

Here's what it looks like on me:

I must say that I'm in love with the texture of this lip color.  It wears as easily as plain ol' vaseline and moisturizes as well.  It won't last through a big meal but it wore for hours on me without feathering.  I outlined my lip with the chubby stick and then filled in the lip with it as well.  The color is potent and true to the stick, with a modest but noticeable shine (a cross between a gloss and a lipstick).  It is flattering on me and so I will assert that it is flattering on all skin tones.   Sometimes the trade-off for gorgeous color is dryness (sorry but lip tar isn't a moisturizer).  Not with these babies!  Great for long work days so you won't have to always reapply.    

Will it replace my favorite reddish pink lipsticks?  No.  But I will say that this little chubby stick has earned its own special place in my makeup collection.  Something I will wear on lighter makeup days, with BB cream, cream blush, a filled in brow, mascara, and this little pop of color to give that fresh faced, finished but not "done" look.

Camo goes glam!

Hey Angels,

Today's outfit is inspired by the recent drop in temperatures and… My recent obsession with all things camouflage!  The key in this outfit is the pops of neon pink that keep this tone on tone look interesting and ultra feminine.  I'm going to find a million ways to incorporate this J. Crew necklace (from their spring/summer collection) into my fall wardrobe, because I do believe in keeping the colors fun even as the layers pile on.

I paired this bold outfit look with neutral (but shimmery) makeup choices.  This allows all the attention to be focused on my neon sandals and statement necklace!

Face:

MAC matchmaster foundation 

Makeup Forever concealer palette

MAC warm blend mineralize skinfinish

Eyes:

MAC- pigment in Naked all over the eyelid, sparkle Neely sparkle in crease, Center Stage in outer v, Arena in highlight /brow bone (not pictured)

Black eyeliner on top eyelid, leave bottom lid unlined for a very daytime/work look.  Finish with at least 2 coats of mascara on top and bottom lashes.  I'm currently loving Benefit "They're Real" mascara over Tarte lash primer.  A winning combo that will have people thinking you're rocking falsies!  

Side note: Since I started using this mascara I've probably worn falsies only a handful of times for special occasions.  

Lips:

OCC makeup lip tar in "kava-kava".  

If you want to punch up this makeup look to meet up with friends at happy hour, switch this lip color for something pink to tie in your shoes and necklace.  Our faves:  MAC Quick Sizzle, Candy Yum-Yum.  Or Urban Decay Anarchy.

My Pregnancy Survival Kit

Hello Angels,

For those of you that may not know one of our Pretty Prescribers is 9 1/2 months pregnant.  Ok I won't keep you in suspense.  It's me!  Any day now our little bundle of joy will arrive.  

During this pregnancy there are some items that helped me make it through the past 38 weeks.  Without them I don't know what I would have done.  They are all reasonably priced and I am going to share them with you in no particular order:

1. T-shirt dress:  From Destination Maternity

2. Comfortable flats:  To be nice to those swelling feet.  These are Tahari and are from Lord & Taylor for $59.99.

3. Scarves: To be worn with blazers and twin sets during your first trimester. (Weather permitting) You can find this at Forever 21 for $10.80

4. Blazers:  I found this one at H&M for $34.95.

5.  Mints:  A must for nausea.  My go to guys were these at a cost of $.49

6.  Ginger Ale:  After eating that greasy meal I shouldn't have, bur that the baby demanded, ginger ale hits the spot.

Here is my fave: $.50 cents a can.

7.  Headbands:  My hair is color treated.  I am old school and did not dye during the pregnancy.  So these Goody headbands were great at $2.50 for two, and they come in many colors!

8.  Blush:  I needed to change my blush color to brighten my increasingly pigmented skin. Here was my top choice: Cargo Laguna for $29.00 at Nordstrom and cargocosmetics.com.

9.  Compression Hose:  During work my feet were very swollen.  Luckily I worked in an air conditioned office so I could wear these. Yes compression socks and stockings from Futuro.  They range from $7-21.

10.  Water Bottle:  Last but not least is my Brita water bottle!  I was able to have fresh-tasting filtered water anywhere.  You can purchase it for $9.99 at stores like Bed Bath and Beyond or Brita.com

Now Angels, are there other things I used this last nine months?  Of course!  But these are the things I used the most and we both don't have all day.  Lol!  If I have any pregnant Angels out there be sure to check out my list for some items that may soothe some of your woes.

Urban Decay Vice Palette 2

Hello Angels,

I am afraid I have to apologize to you. I realize I bought the Urban Decay Vice Palette and I didn't give you all a review.  

Pssssst, that's not all. Come closer.  Urban Decay has just released Vice 2.  It contains 20 new colors for all us makeup junkies.  Here's a pic for you:

If it is anything like the first one, the shadows are pigmented with great color payoff.  I look forward to taking a look and swatching the shades.  I will review it  if I decide to buy it.  You can purchase it at your local Macy's, Ulta or sephora.  It can of course be purchased at Urban Decay.com.
