October is also.....

Hi Angels,

Since we already recognized Breast Cancer Awareness month it is only fitting that we do the same for another disease.  October is also Lupus Awareness Month. Lupus turns your body against itself and causes it to attack healthy normal tissue instead of germs.  Since it can attack any organ, it is difficult to diagnose.  It is not contagious and is found in women ages 15-45.  Women of color are three times more affected.
It is not uncommon for those that suffer from the disease to have a butterfly rash on the face or rest of the body.  For this reason the purple butterfly as well as the purple ribbon are symbols for this illness.  (Courtesy of Becou.com)

We here at the Pretty Prescription recognize that this is a serious disease.  We  encourage you to research it for yourselves. The knowledge you will gain can save your life or the life of someone you love

The Sultan of Suave

Hi Angels,

It is a sad day in the fashion world.  Oscar de la Renta the Dominican "sultan of style" has passed away today due to an undisclosed illness.  Mr. de la Renta had just recently designed Amal Clooney's wedding dress.  He also showed had a line shown for this past Fashion Week.  The Balenciaga mentored and former Lanvin designer launched his line in 1965.  Unlike some other designers of the day he did not negotiate being the sole owner of his line.  A mistake he saw dear friends like Halston and many other designers make.

Mr. De la Renta dressed the likes of SJP, and former First Ladies Jacqueline Kennedy-Onasis, Nancy Reagan and Hilary Clinton.  He will forever be remembered for his great personal style and talent for dressing women.  Here are some pics of the designer and some of his fashions:

This is a picture of a dress from this past fashion week courtesy of Vanity Fair:

Last but not least here is my favorite pic of the designer with Oscar the grouch commemorating 40 years of Seame Street featured in and courtesy of Harper's Bazaar.
Those of you who have any of this genius's fashions now have a piece of fashion history.  We hope the designers at his line will continue to use his aesthetic and influence to dress women for years to come.

Until next time Angels,

Viva Glam Rihanna 2 revisited

Hi Angels,

I know you all remember when we told you the new Viva Glam was set to release last month.  I went to MAC  to buy something else and walked out with that new lippie.  Angels I do have to say I was surprised.  All the swatches I saw made me believe that this lippie was not for me.  Boy was I wrong!!! It worked and it is a great color for the fall.  On my NW43 skin it needs to be worn with MAC stone liner or NYX bean liner.  Let's take a look at the lippie with pics courtesy of me!!!
Here are the lippies in their lovely maroon cases:

Here is a look at lipstick and lipglass:
The lipstick is steel gray with a sheen.  The lipgloss is silver like with multi dimensional pearls.  Here is a swatch of the two: (lipstick, lipglass)

And finally here is a pic of both the lipstick and lipglass with MAC stone liner.
It is a beautiful warm neutral gray with flecks of different colors.  I can see wearing this a great deal this fall.  This understated color can easily go from
day to night without taking away from a smoky eye.  The lippies are available wherever MAC is sold.    The lipstick is $16 and the lipglass is $15.

So what do you think Angels?  Is this something you want to add to your fall rotation?  Did you already purchase the combo?  Let us know what you think.

Until next time

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October as we all know is Breast Cancer awareness month.  One in eight women will develop this disease as well as one in 1000 men.  Women with breast cancer in their family history should begin speaking to their doctors about how to perform a correct monthly self check as well as scheduling yearly mammograms when appropriate.  So wear  your pink ribbons or clothing to honor those who have fought and continue to fight this disease.  This month remember to think pink because the fight continues.
